Pondicherry .... A different side of it...
For those who know Pondicherry, its all about sun kissed beaches and unlimited booze. Close your eyes and paint a picture of the buzzing union territory and it's obviously the beaches that come up-front which no doubt is the largest crowd puller. But this time around , a traveller in me provoked me to explore something else. Hence, we set out with one goal, a Pondicherry trip sans beaches and the sun.
What next?? Time to pick the best time to be there when the sun goes hiding and what better than the month of August when the clouds take over.
Then, how do we reach there ? I have been there driving all the way from Chennai so this time around I chose public transport and as it was drizzling why not hop on to an AC bus.
And thus began the trip....
Here is a list of things you can do in Pondicherry without setting foot on the beach
1. French war memorial
2. Gandhi statue
3. French colony
4. Churches and temples
Churches and temples, and that too many of them, no doubt should make into your list as a must visit . Churches built in European tint has always been a crowd puller in Pondicherry.
5. Food food and food
An amalgamation of Indian and European culture is in full display in Pondicherry and what best than tasting the food to get the taste of it. The place is dotted with many restaurants deserving a chance to treat your taste buds.
6. Auroville
Frequented by locals and international tourists alike, Auroville, spread over a vast patch of red earth is definitely a place to seek some spiritual solace. The beauty of the place lies in the serenity and peace it has to offer.
7. Shop till you can no longer carry
When in Pondicherry do not forget to carry a shopping bag with you . Lined by many shops offering one of the cheapest shopping options , streets like MG Road and Nehru road are a paradise for shoppers to look for .
A one day trip including a night stay at a beach resort should be enough to get a worthy experience for memory. Hence, if you someone who stays away from the sun, Pondi still has a lot on the table
