Chennai calling......

Chennai or Madras it's erstwhile name brings the hot sun to  fore, hot humid and sultry when the sun reigns supreme. But that a single peril is wrestled over by many attractions is evident here is Chennai, that too, overwhelmingly evident. One of the four metros of India, Chennai has a tag of being a mocktail of tradition and the latest.

When to be here?

Though you may choose to be here anytime in the year, but for folks who like the shade more than the sun, Chennai is best to be visited in the last or the early two months of the year. That's when the rains drizzle and the mercury dips, not too much though.

1. Shopping
   Shopaholic are you? Then Chennai places a  wide array of choices on the table. TNagar,
Pondy bazaar and Sowcarpet, just to name a  few are the places you should be going to pick up the best money can get. Clothes, shoes bangles and fancy stuff, all lined on the pavement for you to train your bargaining skills. And a bit of guts would be enough to try the Burma Bazaar electronic market.


2. Culture 
 Abode of arts and dance, Chennai is a hearthrob  for those close to Indian culture. Drawing Indian and international crowd alike, Chennai stays as close to tradition as it can. Music season in the month of December is a must watch for ardent fans. Apart from it, Bharatanatyam blooms in full glory in this city. Kalakshetra, a name synonymous with Bharatanatyam, finds its roots in the city. While in the city, donot miss a visit to Dakshina chithra along the east cost .


3. Spirituality and religion
For those seeking spiritual solace, Chennai is the city to opt for. Not only does it have many temples and churches but is also a surrounded by many religious places, Tirupati, parthasarathy temple, kapaleeshwara and Iskon just to name a few. Placing high standards of peaceful co-existence is the presence of numerous churches like Santhome and dargahs. In addition to this, the city houses jains, brahma kumaris and Ramakrishna mission also.


4. Beach and resorts 
Roaring beaches extending till infinity, that too in the heart of the city. What else do beach lovers want? Chennai boasts to have one of the longest urban beach in its kitty, named Merina, the sun bathed shore no doubt draws quite a few people to it. Add Elliot beach and its cool evening to the list, you can't ask for anything more.


Blessed with a long coastline and a road running parallel to it till Pondicherry, Chennai offers one hell of a place for a beach drive, with your loved one of course. An open jeep, a lady you love and  blaring music , enough ingredients for a memory , isn't it. Well chennai has it all and thats not it. Book a resort along the beach and have a chill. All this in a metro. Imagine.
5. Food 
Chennai presents a traditional face when it comes to food. Saravana Bhavan & Adayar anand Bhavan are a must for your taste buds. The land of dosas and idlis also has a thing for intercontinental and northie food. Several food chains, especially in the area with IT parks are crowd pullers every evening.

6. Malls and theme parks
Though traditional in most walks, malls doting various places across the city shows its modern face. Interestingly, theatres in chennai offer movies at one of the cheapest price in the country. Its not all, apart form malls and shopping centres, the city boasts of many theme parks.
7. Tourism and nature : 
Surrounded by many tourist destinations and hill stations, Chennai has many weekend getaways like yelagiri, yercaud and horsley hills just to name a few. The city becomes hot spot for bird watchers drawing scores of them to Vedanthangal.


8. Music
Made glorious by the Mozart of Madras , A R Rahman, chennai is abode of many musicians and music lovers and music aspirants making it one of the most musical cities of India.
